“My mission is to provide the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office with leadership to take the agency to the next level with transparency, professionalism and service above self.  The safety and welfare of the office and citizens of Wayne County will always be my first priority and I will always lead by example.”

About Tom

Tom graduated from Smithville High School in 1990.  He has been married to Melanie for 28 years and together they have 3 adult children; Lincoln (Mary), Derek, and Averie. Tom has been a lifelong resident of Wayne County and has resided in Orrville for the last 18 years. He has over 18 years in law enforcement and has had the opportunity to serve the citizens of Wayne and Summit Counties. During his career, Tom has attended numerous training and leadership courses and is proficient in investigations, juvenile diversion, and crisis intervention, as well as drug recognition, and apprehensive training.

Military

Tom has always felt the call to service.  Tom served our nation in the United States Army for 7 years, with duty stations in Germany and Kansas, both with the 1st Infantry Division.   Because of his leadership skills, as well as strong work ethic, he obtained the rank of staff sergeant.  While in Kansas, Tom’s unit was deployed to the Al Anbar Provence of Iraq in 2003.  During the deployment, as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle Commander, Tom led 13 soldiers and is credited with successfully completing over 200 combat missions in Al Ramdi, Al Fallujah, Al Habbanyah and Khalidiya.   The impact of his deployment only strengthened Tom’s desire to serve others and help those in need. 

Police

Upon Tom’s completion of service with the US Army, he started his law enforcement career with the Wayne County Sheriff Office in 2005.  Tom began his career working in the Corrections Division and later transitioning to the road patrol.  Tom was able to gather knowledge throughout the sheriff’s office from corrections to enforcing state and local laws throughout the county.  Tom had the privilege of serving the citizens of Chippewa Township.  Due to budget issues in 2008, Tom was forced to continue his law enforcement career with the Copley Police Department.  For the last 15 years, Tom has served the citizens of Copley in various roles.  Tom has had the opportunity to serve as a Patrol Officer, DARE Officer for Copley Fairlawn Schools, School Resource Officer, Field Training Officer, Drug Recognition Expert, Metro Swat Negotiator, Juvenile Diversion Officer, and currently as a Detective.
